Michael Wollny's [em]
The well behaved chamber-musical jazz format has transformed itself in recent years into a hotbed of contemporary music going beyond all genre boundaries. Since its debut in 2005, the [em] trio has been regarded as the German testimony of this development. Hailed in Die Zeit as "the world's most exciting piano trio," [em] features one of Germany’s most creative pianists, Michael Wollny, alongside bassist Eva Kruse and drummer Eric Schaefer.
[em]’s music is rooted not only in the jazz tradition but also in European art music, from Stravinsky to Kurtag, as well as in the sombre symbolism of the Romantic poets and, not least, in the pounding drum & bass of the early 21st century.
